World Cup : USA shocks Portugal

first senegal stuns france with an opening-game victory.. now the usa beats portugal 3-2 in a first-round game.

and, one of portugal's goals was the result of an american "own goal".

i saw a couple of beee-autiful crossing passes that resulted in american goals.. this brand of football, with its unexpected surprises, may actually become fun to watch!!.

The point of the World Cup is to cheer on any team who plays against Germany or Argentina.

Jubilee Celebrations Forbidden To Witness Kids.

today, tuesday, is the fourth day of celebrating queen elizabeth 2nds golden jubilee in the uk.

whether youre a royalist or not doesnt really matter, the queen is, especially to the english, a part of our heritage.

its history being made in glorious technicolour.. so, theres lots of celebrating been goin on over the last 4 days.

I know of a very well known, long standing elder who took his wife to the weekend classical concert at Buckingham Palace as part of the Jubilee Celebrations.

This same elder was always making up his own rules and regulations. He used to measure the width of the brothers trousers in the 70's to be sure no one was wearing flares. He concreted the football field at the back of the hall to stop us playing football. He banned beards. He banned most forms of music.

If the witnesses aren't allowed to celebrate the Jubilee then he's more of a two-faced tosser than I thought he was.

i was thinking today about all the time i spent on the ministry.. walking down the street with my suit and briefcase ready to defend the truth.. i recalled some of the conversations i had , had.some of the bible studies i conducted, the talks i had given the groups i had taken.. i remmebered the way i defended my faith and belief in jehovah and the jehovahs witness organisation.. how much i must have believed it was the truth.. i spent 3 years as an auxillary pioneer and called on many thousands of people.. yet all along i was wrong.. every time i defened my beliefs i was wrong.. every talk i studied and prepeared long and hard for, i was wrong.. all the things i gave up for the truth i was wrong.. what an idiot.

There's an old school mate I've been wanting to contact for a while - basically to say sorry for the endless hours of witnessing I gave him.

After reading this thread I'm going to phone him this weekend !

how does Jehovah rationalize Babel?

i'll try to keep this concise... this is an issue i never got an answer to, from the elders or any witness, on my way out of the "truth":.

jws believe that god permits evil to answer the "age-old challenge from satan the devil," that man can't rule himself without god, correct?

(please correct me if i'm wrong).

Just how fair is the challenge ?

Mankind is imperfect
Man is then given numerous new languages which confuse and create disunity.
Thousands of new religions spring from Babylon and spread across the entire Earth to create even deeper divisions.
This eventually means that a billion Chinese, a billion Indians and 99.9% of the rest of the world have no idea who the true God is.
And add to that the fact that since 1914 Satan and his demons have been cast down to Earth to further mislead.

Oh and as a last thought, although it took billions of years for God to create the Universe and life in it, man has just 6000 years to sort things out.

Who knows where mankind's destiny lies.

In a hundred years the world could be an overcrowded, polution filled mess. World economies could have collapsed. Famine and disease could affect billions. The ice caps might have melted. We may even have wiped ourselves out with nuclear weapons.

Or mankind may develop inter planetary travel. We may have cured cancer. We may even have a cure for old age. This would make God redundant and religion a thing of the past. Science may eventually provide answers to pollution, famine and climate.

God has stacked the cards against us. But until the game is played to the very end no one knows who is right.

A JW will say that God will bring about Armageddon because he can see into the future and knows that mankind will fail.

But how would anyone know if Armageddon had happened because mankind would eventually have proved God wrong.

i joined this group in february, however had been surfing the various websites that expose the witnesses' lies since being disfellowshipped last august.

the support from those sites and this board have been invaluable.

today, i no longer have the fear of having left the organization.

I'm still doing exams in my mid thirties but it's well worth it.

okay, weve lost gerrard - that's the biggest blow in my book - but beckham seems almost up to speed.

do we have any chance of making it to the 2nd round?.

i think nigeria are more of a threat than sweden who we should beat.

I was just going to say how good the French team were looking - and then Senegal scored !!

I think Chasson could be right about their defence - I can't believe the French haven't got a better defender that Frank Leboef !

Their midfield is still the best in the world!

Doubt it -

We never beat Sweden. The Argies are favourites and Nigeria could beat us as well. But who's to say that Nigeria won't beat Argentina like they did at USA '94 and throw the group wide open.
If we're second we play France next - then Brazil (probably) in the quarter finals. We haven't a chance!
Maybe if Ryan Giggs played for England like he did at school level then we'd have a better chance!

And to all the Yanks on the board - how come you have something called the "World Series" when only you play baseball! In the UK we call it "rounders" - and it's for girls!
